W Bro J H Gilbertson was the first Senior Warden of Royston Lodge in which ha afterwards served with great distinction.
He was Initiated in Cecil Lodge No 449 in November 1885 and was Installed as Worshipful Master in January 1892. He served as Secretary from 1903 to 1938. He was appointed Provincial Grand Steward in 1888, Provincial Senior Deason in 1892 and Provincial Senior Grand Warden in 1915. In 1927 he was appointed to the rank of Past Junior Grand Deacon in the United Grand Lodge of England. He was a Founder of Rahere Lodge No. 2546 in 1895 and became Worshipful Master in 1904; of Royston Lodge No. 4304 in 1921 and was Installed as its second Worshipful Master in 1922; of Hertfordshire Regiment Lodge No. 4537 in 1923 as its first Worshipful Master. He was a Founder of the Hertfordshire Masters’ Lodge. 4090 in 1920 and was Installed Worshipful Master in 1925. He served as Secretary from 1921 to 1938 with the exception of the year 1925 when he was in the chair.
He was Exalted into Royal Arch Masonry in Cecil Chapter No. 449 as its Exaltee in July 1889 and became First Principal in 1895. He Joined Hert Chapter No. 403 in 1904 and was Installad as First Principal in 1907. In 1908 he was appointed Provincial Grand Scribe Nwhwmiah and in 1918 promoted to Provincial Tird Grand Principal. In1927 has was awarded the rank of Past Assistant Grand Sojourner in the Supreme Grand Chapter of England.
On January 13th, 1938 he was Installed into the Chair of Cecil Lodge for the second time on the occasion of its Centenary Celebrations. Unfortunately, he was not long to hold this honored position as he died on 22nd February, 1938.
